Basket Day in the Park: An Exploration of Natural & Abundant Materials

Date & Time: Saturday, August 19, 9am-3:30pm (set up 8:30am)

Basket Day 2023 will bring together some of the guild’s expert instructors offering classes and an opportunity to learn about preparing cedar bark! Options include:

 Learning to prepare your own cedar bark

 Weaving a small basket with iris leaves

 Making a cedar/willow pouch

All classes will be held at Mary S. Young Park, in West Linn, Oregon. Scroll down to view and register for a class!

Basket Day is a special class opportunity for members only, in which the Guild pays the class fee and students pay only the material fee. Participants will pay the material fee online at time of registration. If you are not a Guild member but would like to become one, click here.

Bring your own: water bottle and snacks if needed. All classes are appropriate for all skill levels. Because we will be sitting at picnic/folding tables, distancing may not be possible. Please bring your own table/chair if you wish to ensure physical distance between yourself and others.

Classes are 3 hours. Each student may take a morning class and/or afternoon class. Drop in for Cedar Preparation between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Not taking a class? You can still enjoy Basket Day. Bring a basketry project you’re working on and join the fun of weaving with friends in a beautiful outdoor environment.

Basket Day Bonuses In addition to class offerings, the Guild library will be available. We also will have a “treasure table” of materials and tools left over from various projects and classes. Want to move out some old materials? Bring them to the table. Want to pick up some cool stuff? Take it from the table for a small donation.

Below are listings for Basket Day classes. All classes must be registered for online. Please note that the classes “Weaving with Iris Leaves” and “Bark Pouch in Cedar” occur at the same time - so you may only sign up for one of those two classes. Sign up is required by August 4, 2023. No refunds after that date. If you have any questions, email ColumbiaBasinBasketryGuild@gmail.com
