August’s 4th Monday Mini Class: Monkey’s Fist
August’s 4th Monday Mini Class: Monkey’s Fist
In this class we will learn to tie the monkey’s fist knot. Historically, it was used to make a neat ball at the end of a rope and was often tied around some kind of ball to add weight. The knot was traditionally used by sailors to throw a line from ship to shore or another ship. Today it’s used decoratively as knots for lidded baskets and or decorative elements on baskets, as well as for key chains, earrings, cufflinks, zipper pulls, and as the knot in frog closures for jackets.
We will start by tying the knot with clothesline to become familiar with the technique. Then you will have your choice of materials of different gauges which will result in knots of different sizes. These may include paracord and other cording, wire, rattan, bamboo, and leather. Please feel free to bring your own materials as well. You will be able to complete a number of knots.
You may cancel your registration and be refunded by August 15. Cancellations after August 15 are non-refundable.
