Student skill level: Beginning.

Instructor will mail to you: Danish cord, 2 skeins of embroidery floss, bees wax, written directions, tips for coiling, and circle guide.

What you will need: small scissors, pen, thimble if you wish, and work lamp if you need it for close work.

This is a techniques class. Students will be introduced to the techniques of wrapping, coiling, joining, pattern work, shaping, and finishing. Projects may not be finished in class, but students will have directions and will have learned all skills necessary to finish in their own time.

The basket we will make is 2 ¾" in diameter (with the option of making it slightly bigger if desired), and it is made of silk embroidery floss and Danish cord. Closed coil means the core of the basket is completely covered. Joins between rows are invisible. The final basket will be flat or curved - artist’s choice.

*Students are encouraged to use a workspace camera for demonstration, questions, and problem solving. * We ask participants to use their smartphone as a camera on their work, using a DIY camera stand. To see full directions, click here.
