Basic Basketry Techniques: Pine Needle Coiling
This is a class for a beginning pine needle basket coiled around a decorative start. It will include basic stitching and shaping.
The class will be online via Zoom in two 3-hour sessions on Saturday, January 15, 2022: 9am-noon and 1-4pm Pacific time.

Student skill level: Beginning. CBBG members only. Sorry, no option for Canadian members for this class.
Number of students: 12
What you will need: Tools: small scissors, tapestry needle, needle nosed pliers. Location: Zoom; link will be sent out to registrants
Cost: $22/$30 ($12 class fee and either $10 or $18 for materials)
Option 1: $22 - Local material kit pick-up (Homestead area off SW Terwilliger in Portland)
Option 2: $30 - USPS Shipping. For shipping, we must have your registration by December 15.
Materials include pine needles, artificial sinew, and a decorative center. You will have a choice of sinew colors: cream, red, green, blue, or natural.
*Students are encouraged to use a workspace camera for demonstration, questions, and problem solving* We ask participants to use their smartphone as a camera on their work, using a DIY camera stand. Full directions here.
For the camera stand you will need:
A smartphone
Two tall bottles full (wine, Martinelli bottles, 2 liter pop, etc.)
Yard stick or other similar flat piece
Tape to hold the yard stick on top of the bottles
Rubber bands to hold the phone
A work light helps to get light on your weaving while under the camera.
Registration is open to CBBG members only. Last day to register is December 15. You may cancel your registration and be refunded by December 15. Cancellations after December 15 are not refundable.
