Using Western Red Cedar and yellow cedar students will weave over a cockle shell gathered from the Oregon Coast. These rattles are modeled after rattles used in a movie that Deb saw in Haida Gwaii. Techniques include twining and weaving a cross warp. Students must be able to twine already.

Supplies needed: 6-10 small pebbles, gravel or size 8-10 beads, small needle-nose plier or hemostat, small WeaveRite or flat-head screwdriver, soaking bucket, scissors, 2-4 rubber bands

We ask participants to use their smartphone as a camera on their work, using a DIY camera stand. Full directions here.

For the camera stand you will need:

A smartphone

Two tall bottles full (wine, Martinelli bottles, 2 liter pop, etc.)

Yard stick or other similar flat piece

Tape to hold the yard stick on top of the bottles

Rubber bands to hold the phone

A work light helps to get light on your weaving while under the camera.
