Willow Pack Basket Workshop

$140.00

In this class you will learn to make a medium-sized stake and strand willow pack basket with an oval base and leather straps. The straps will be provided and you will learn to attach them in class. The workshop will also cover shaping the basket to be worn comfortably on the body.

Date & Time: Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9, 2023. 9:00am - 5:00pm PDT

Location: the Multnomah Arts Center, room 39 (7688 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland, OR)

Materials: Willow and leather

Instructor: Aganaq Kostenborder

Student skill level: Intermediate. CBBG members only

Number of students: 8

What you will need: Sharp knife, pruning snips (optional), lunch and beverage, if desired.

Cost: $140 class fee. Plus a $30 CBBG willow materials fee. You will pay the CBBG willow fee at the class; please have Willow Bucks and/or a check made out to “CBBG” when arriving to class.

The last day to register is Saturday, March 25, 2023. If you need to cancel, please do so before March 25 to receive a full refund.

Please note: The Guild requires full COVID-19 vaccinations and masks for all in-person classes.

About the Instructor: Aganaq Kostenborder is an artist, craftsperson, teacher, and student of many mediums, including basketry, hide tanning, sewing, natural dyes, drawing and more. She loves working with wild willows and connecting to the waterways where they grow.

Her willow basketry practice began the summer of 2012 when she met her basketry teacher, Margaret Mathewson, and learned to weave her first willow basket.

Born and raised in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and belonging to the lands of the Alutiiq and Yupik peoples, salmon, bears, mosquitos and the Curyung tribe, she now lives on Chinook land in western Oregon. You can see more of her work on her website:
