CBBG June General Meeting with Jessica Douglas: Let me show you my roots - Indigenous First Foods & Family History

Description: As a Siletz tribal member and Kalapuya descendant, Jessica Douglas has developed a deep love and relationship with camas. Before the arrival of settlers, camas was one of most prolific plants in the Willamette Valley and provided a valuable First Food for tribal communities, and still does to this day.

After finding a recipe from her great-great grandfather to cook camas in a traditional ground pit oven, this talk will cover Jessica’s journey to reclaim family history and culture, understand camas and its history in the Willamette Valley, and revitalize a traditional cooking practice.
