Description: 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the Hudson's Bay Company's Fort Vancouver in 1825. For over 30 years, Fort Vancouver, located in present-day Vancouver, Washington, served as the fur trading company's administrative headquarters, and provided supplies for a network of forts in the region.

After the United States took control of the Northwest, the fort was abandoned, burned, and its exact location was lost to history. In 1947, National Park Service archaeologists began excavations and were able to locate the fort's site. Decades of excavations followed, and resulted in the partial reconstruction of the Fort Vancouver that now welcomes one million visitors annually.

National Park Service Curator Meagan Huff will share the history of Fort Vancouver and its importance to the history of the Pacific Northwest, the significance of archaeological excavations, and what we can still discover in Fort Vancouver National Historic Site's extensive museum collection.

Meagan Huff has worked with museum collections at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site since 2010 and today serves as its museum curator. She has a Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Art History, also from the University of Washington.

This meeting is intended for Guild members only. If you are not a Guild member, but would like to become one, we welcome you. Click here to join.
