March’s 4th Monday Mini Class: Small Round Vessel & Natural Material Exploration

In this beginner class students will learn how to weave a circular basket base start, twine up the basket, and finish with a rim designed for round spokes. Students will also have the opportunity to learn how to create cordage to make a simple basket handle. We will explore a variety of locally gleaned materials such as tule, day lily, iris, etc. (seasonally dependent). 

*Important note on registration and receiving materials* Registration is open to CBBG members. See below. You will pay online and enter your address as part of the check-out process. This way we will be able to mail your class materials to you, if you choose that option. You may cancel your registration and be refunded by March 8. Cancellations after March 8 are non-refundable.

Cost: Guild fee- $6. Materials and shipping options below.

Material + shipping fee:  

Option 1: $20 - Local material kit pick-up in Lloyd Center area.

Option 2: $35 - USPS Standard Flat Rate Shipping Box. We must have your registration by Monday, March 8.

Option 3: $ no material fee. Work with plant materials you have at home. For people who have had experience harvesting and drying plant materials. Example materials that can be used for this class: daylily, iris, dandelion, cattail, seagrass, willow bark, etc.

Supplies needed: scissors, awl like tool for tucking ends, spray bottle, towel, small clips (can come in handy if you have them)

*We will use the DIY camera stand for demonstration, questions, and problem solving*

We ask participants to use their smartphone as a camera on their work, using a DIY camera stand. Click here for full directions. 

For the camera stand you will need:

  • A smartphone

  • Two tall bottles full (wine, Martinelli bottles, 2 liter pop, etc.)

  • Yard stick or other similar flat piece

  • Tape to hold the yard stick on top of the bottles

  • Rubber bands to hold the phone

A work light helps to get light on your weaving while under the camera.
