From Barbara: My interest in Native American art, especially Northwest basketry, led me to basket making.
While I enjoy working with a variety of materials, twining has become my favorite weaving technique. I use full-turn twining to create cylindrical bags in the style of Wasco (Sally) root-gathering bags. I create my own designs, often inspired by native designs. I primarily use Pendleton wool yarn for my bags.
I took my first basketry classes in 2004 with Kim Black and Margaret Mathewson. I joined the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild when I was close to retirement in 2011 and now weave every day.
